Dear Members of the Charles O'Brien Family,
When I first arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, as the
Admitting Director, I became acquainted with practically all the
medical staff members, one of which was Dr. O'Brien.
He was such a kind, compassionate individual and we immediately
greeted each other with a few words whenever we met in the halls. On
one occasion, I told him that if ever I had any kind of surgery, I
wanted him to do it. He immediately responded that he was a thoracic
surgeon but I told him even if I had an appendectomy or "whatever," I
wanted him to do it. Needless to say, I was not the only one who felt
that way. He was indeed an extraordinary individual -- a man of deep
faith and love of family.
Unfortunately I was out of Dayton when he left so I didn't even have
the opportunity to say goodbye; however, I did pray for him and sent
him a note. Dr. O'Brien was one of a group of physicians who met
periodically for lunch so I sorta' kept track of him until even they
did not know his address.
It is so difficult, always, to realize that a person whom one thought
so much of is no longer in our midst. Always stop and look at his
picture on the wall in the hallway leading to the cafeteria. He was
Chief of Staff at Good Samaritan and his smiling face will always
remind us of his uniqueness -- his gentle, kind and caring spirit --
and his tender love for his family.
Please know I had great respect for your father as did all of the
Sisters of Charity who knew him -- all of them no longer at Good
Samaritan but even those in Cincinnati at our Motherhouse, inquire of
him. He was indeed dearly loved.
Realize there will be a void in your family which can never be filled
but you can take consolation in the fact that your father is now
enjoying his eternal reward, along with your mother.
Bless your hearts and keep the faith.
Love,
Sister Mary Corrine, S.C.##imported-begin##Sister Mary Corrine, S.C.##imported-end##
