grandpa was a nice man. grandpa and grandma always came to visit on every holiday. In 1973 grandpa took me to a Detroit Tigers game. It was a double header.In the first game, we saw a steaker run across the field, he tried to climb the safety net behind the catcher's box, security rushed to the scene and took him away. We are so very sorry for your loss! We only knew Bud through Ray Hjort, my dear step-dad, who loved him very much. Although our families have had much heartache the last year or more, it has helped to share our grief, become closer. "Loss" to each of us is relative to our own memories, but the love and strength is there for us all. I see it all around us in those left behind to carry on. Memories, so many, where to start. As a youngster and being curious I remember going through Grandpa and Grandma's attic. My, what treasures through all those boxes. I found a box of coins, several Indian head pennies. I showed Grandpa what I discovered, he graciously gave me a couple of those old pennies. He was always patient, never yelling and so kind. Being the oldest grandchild I think I was held in high regards to Grandpa and Grandma, maybe spoiled abit. He and Grandma would always visit our large family of 11 during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. There visit was always a highlight and made the holiday season extra special. He loved baseball, during the summer he watched his beloved Chicago Cubs, he adopted the Detriot Tigers as his second team. A true diehard baseball fan. My children meant Grandpa and Grandma, what a treat for my kids be able to interact with there Great Grandparents. We miss you Grandpa, and we will meant again! Life Savers and Cracker Jack...

So many times when Grandma and Grandpa visited we always anticipated their arrival. No matter when they came to visit Grandpa always had a roll of Life Savers and a box of Cracker Jack for each of us. During my entire life Grandpa was always a joy to talk to and always had a story to share and sometimes a question to ask. He always appreciated the time we spent with him and made many comments on his appreciation of even the smallest things we may have done for him. I remember one of the visits we had where we were lucky enough to stay the night in Muskegon. Grandpa made "his" Waffles covered with Ice Cream, Strawberries, and whipped cream for us. He would always give a hug and had a fondness for back scratches. He would show us his arm and say "Look at the Goose Bumps" while smiling.

One of the sayings he taught and comes to mind brings a tear to my eye but seems fitting...See ya later Alligator. I know in my heart he is replying "In a while Crocodile"

Ray's family in Colorado did not know Bud, but heard a lot about him. Ray would always talk about him and their age difference. Ray loved him very much. Every time Ray would talk about Bud, a huge smile would be on his face.
Those of us here send our deepest thoughts and prayers to all of you, and Ray. With much love......

Bud was a wonderful, kind, humorous and sweet man. It was our pleasure to get to know him through our Aunt Doris these past years. She will miss him so, but we feel she was blessed to have him in her life as well as she in his. Our sympathies to you and your family.

Grandpa was the sweetest, kindest man who never raised his voice. I remember being so excited waiting for Grandma and Grandpa to come visit us throughout the year. As soon as Grandpa would walk in the door, I would corner him to play the card game, "War" with me which is always did so willingly. We played countless games of War. He would also lift me in the air and say, "SOOOO big!!!". Grandpa was a special man who gave the priceless gift of time spent with his family and for that, I am forever grateful. Grandpa was a gentle"man", Grandma and Grandma use to come to the house every Thanksgiving and Christmas, we could always count on Grandpa to give us grandkids attention. I recall his telling me to bend over, put my hands between my legs and with a swift whoosh he would flip me up in the air and land me on my feet. He never raised his voice once with the interactions of all 9 of us grandkids in our house. A true blessing our family and someone I can say “I” truly looked up to...
