It will be hard missing the memorial service, but because our VFW Honor Guard has another funeral assignment at the same day, and time, we will not be able to attend. Please know that the VFW loved and respected Al VanOordt. Our hearts and prayers are with the family. May god bless you at this difficult time.....Gerald Tripp, Chaplain VFW Post 2326.

Al, is a very special friend. He would always see me and say, " Hi Commander" and I would say " I am not Commander any more" and Al would say " You will always be Commander to me". He will be missed dearly by all of us at the American Legion, with that great smile he had. I remember when the Coast Guard ships were coming in he was always there early and would be up on the deck at the Legion with that "GREAT SMILE".
He was very active with our Honor Guard and would make lots of the funerals to "Honor our Veterans". He was one of our members that would show up all the time, so that made us younger members think, "Boy we have a hard act to follow". I am so glad he was there when we Honored all of our WWII veterans from the area. Also he was with our Honor Guard Teams from the VFW and American Legion when we were all Honored by the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival Commetiee. I will miss seeing Al at all of our Wednesday night dinners and at our Veterans Day dinner.
I salute you my friend.
God Bless you and your family,
We will carry on for you "Honoring our Veterans"

Special to have spent time with you dad at the Legion last summer. Greatest Generation always to be remembered.
I always knew that Uncle Al liked me and was always glad to see me. I watched him be that way with everyone. It was just the gracious friend he was. I will miss him.
