Charles "Charlie" W. Carson Jr.
August 12, 1925 - May 6, 2022
Charles Wesley Carson Jr. passed away in Muskegon on May 6, 2022, at the age of 96. He was born on August 12, 1925, to his parents, Charles Wesley Carson Sr. and Mildred Mae (Barnum) Williams. Growing up in Fremont, he was a longtime resident of Holton with his wife of 76 years, Phyllis, who survives him. Together they tended one of the best gardens in the county. They met as pen pals during World War II, where Charlie proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic in the South Pacific. Charlie retired as a toolmaker from Shaw Box Crane, Dresser Industries. He could build or repair anything and he loved to hunt and fish, skills that he passed on to his sons and grandsons. His extraordinary woodworking skills were legendary and well-represented within the family and beyond. Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Phyllis; two sons: Tom (Judy) Carson and Bill (Sharon) Carson; four grandsons: Mike (Peggy) Carson, Steve (Lisa) Carson, Dave Carson, and Brian Carson; three granddaughters: Yvonne (Kurt) Brown, Jennifer Woodman, and Teresa (Jim) Eriksen; eleven great-grandchildren and a newborn great-great-granddaughter. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be taking place on Wednesday, May 11, at 11:00 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442), with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made out to Kindred Hospice or The USS LST 393 Museum.
