Ethel J. "Eppie" Brown

June 1, 1933 - March 29, 2022

Ethel J. “Eppie” Brown, age 88, met her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. She was born on June 1, 1933 to William and Miriam (Renner) Brown in Pittsburgh, PA. In the early 1950’s, Eppie made her way to Muskegon, MI where she remained a resident the rest of her life. She dedicated numerous years working as an aide at the Muskegon Developmental Center. She truly enjoyed her time there being able to help others. Eppie had a passion for many things, she enjoyed traveling, puzzle books and dancing, particularly the Jitterbug. She also had a love for animals and had an unconditional love for her pups, Shadow and Sonny. Above all things, she truly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will always be remembered as “Granny” and the worlds best back scratcher. She was a loving mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother and dear friend to many. Her tender-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her 3 children, Bruce (Susan) Zitka, Vicki Tawney and Terri Morté; 8 grandchildren, Heather (Mark) Mills, Anthony (Krissi) Zitka, Jason (Alicia) Hernandez, Christopher (Melody) Zitka, Michael (Roci Jo) Tawney, Joseph Tawney, Kimberly Morté and Jennifer Hernandez; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Leon Brown and Frank Brown; son-in-law, Greg Morté; and father of her children, James Zitka. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 1, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, 49444. A visitation with the family will be held from 12-1:00 PM at the funeral home. Ethel will be laid to rest at Sunrise Memorial Garden Cemetery. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
