James D. Bird

August 9, 1952 - February 28, 2022

James D. Bird, age 69, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2022 following a long battle with cancer. He was born August 9, 1952 to James L. and Yvonne (LeMieux) Bird. Jim was a Mona Shores High School graduate of 1970 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1976. He worked as a corrections officer for the State of Michigan for 22 years prior to his retirement in 2014. He married Delores E. “Dee” Videtich on October 26,1985 in Muskegon. Olivet Evangelical Free Church has been their home church for many years. He enjoyed volunteering, biking, walking his dogs, was a Michigan State Spartan fan, and was a model car and record collector. Jim was also very handy with tools and could fix just about anything. He loved home improvements, remodeling, and had a true attention to detail. But most importantly, he loved time with his grandchildren and family. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. We will miss his knowledge and guidance along with his unique personality and quirky sense of humor. Jim is survived by his wife, Dee; 3 sons: Jason (Jen) Bird, Steven (Lizzie) Bird, and Kevin (Taryne) Bird; 3 grandchildren: Trevor, Ellie, and Mason; sister, Judy (Bill) Novak; 2 nephews: Jeff (Melissa) Novak and Ben (Rachael) Novak. He was preceded in death by his parents. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-8 PM Friday, March 11, 2022 at Olivet Evangelical Free Church – Harvey Campus (6790 Harvey St., Spring Lake, MI 49456) and one hour prior to the Saturday service. A CELEBRATION of Jim’s life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the church with Pastor Craig Cramblet officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. MEMORIALS to Olivet Evangelical Free Church – Harvey Campus or the Muskegon Rescue Mission will be appreciated.
