James "Flea" Karry

James “Flea” Karry, age72, passed away March 23, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. Jim was born in Chicago to William and Katherine Karry who preceded him in death. The family moved to North Muskegon and then to Bay City where Jim graduated from Bay City Central, exceling on the swim team and later attended Alma College before going into the Army in 1970. Many of his good friends are still in Bay City, most known only by their nicknames. Jim lived in Detroit for a short time before moving back to Muskegon. Flea enjoyed golfing, traveling (especially to Ireland) good food, and he was a good cook. He loved to sail, especially with his father and his sailing buddies, Jumbo and Easy. He would often look out over the lake remembering a line from a Jimmy Buffett song, “Stars on the Water”. He was an avid Notre Dame and NASCAR fan. In addition, Jim and Connie volunteered for Pound Buddies for over 20 years. Jim is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters: Sarah (Dan) Ranger, Anne Purcell, and Jameson (Scott) Flack; grandsons: David and Thomas; sisters: Kathy Beaver and Tish (Steve) Campbell; and brother, Bill (Louise) Karry; along with numerous beloved nephews and nieces. Jim loved life and never missed a family reunion or a chance to get together with his Bay City and Muskegon friends. He was very special to so many people! A CELEBRATION of Jim’s life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 4, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231)798-1100. VISITATION with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 3, 2022 (Jim’s birthday). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pound Buddies Animal Shelter.
