Margaret "Peggy" Haig

July 10, 1936 - April 24, 2022

Margaret (Peggy) Haig died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 24th, 2022. She was born to Sam and Carolyn Mazurek on July 10, 1936, in Chicago Il. The family moved to a farm in Michigan in 1951 and she graduated from Scottville High School in 1954. Peggy then went on to Western Michigan University and received her BS in Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten and first grade for 10 years in Grand Rapids, California and Grand Haven. Peggy married Don Haig on August 21, 1965. He preceded her in death in 1991. She and Don built and managed Peggy’s Pantry, their store in Ferrysburg, for many years. Peggy then became a CNA at Sanctuary by the Shore positively impacting elderly people with her caring and kindness. Peggy enjoyed retirement and took classes in Yoga, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Belly Dancing, Tap Dancing Ukelele and was a Red Hatter. Peggy was a volunteer with the Handicapped Horseback Riding Program for many years. She also mentored migrant children and did childcare at her church. Peggy was an avid reader, and was a member of 2 book clubs, one of which she helped start 38 years ago. Her greatest joy was sharing life with her grandson Max, who kept her young and made her laugh. Peggy was patient, tolerant, non-judgemental and will be missed by her family, Laura (Randy) Rohrs, bonus grandchildren Taylor, Regan, Miller and Delaney. Donna Haig (Andrew Schmalz) and Max Haig, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 10 nieces and nephews and many greats. Peggy often took advantage of her position as the matriarch of the family, but they all loved her anyway! She will always be missed, always loved and always remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations to Warner-Baird Library, NOCCA (4-Points Senior Center) or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Schwartz as celebrant.
