May Frances Hills

January 29, 1951 - April 29, 2022

May Frances Hills, age 71, went home to be with her Father in heaven on April 29, 2022 at Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, Michigan. May “Frances” was born January 29, 1951 in Muskegon, MI to the late Cleveland Burks Sr. and Barbara J. Johnson. Frances, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, retired from the State of Michigan Correctional facility of Muskegon in 2006. Frances enjoyed outings with family, playing bingo, cards, and board games. Frances was an excellent seamstress who prided herself on special designs. She also loved to plant flowers and was very proud of her green thumb. May “Frances” leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters: Loveda Butcher and Yolanda Johnson both of Muskegon, MI; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Freddie Sargent, Alvin (Shontina) Sargent, and Clarence (Dakota) Durga; 2 sisters: Linda Sargent and Barbara Lenoir; and a God sister, Williemae Gillespie. She also leaves to cherish her a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; 2 special cousins: Vivian Vance of Grand Rapids, MI and Pamela Pierce of Indianapolis, Indiana; special friends (sisters): Mary (Becky) McLauren, Cheyenne Green, and Audrey Goliday. Frances was preceded in death by her son, Caruis Johnson; parents: mother, Barbara (Johnson) Sargent, father, Cleveland Burks Sr., and Matthew (M.T) Sargent; grandparents: Glen Johnson Sr. and Vashtia Briggs; brother, Marshall Johnson; and sister, Dorothy Sargent. A graveside service will be held for May “Frances” at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
