Thorsen Neal Thorstenson

Thorsen Neal Thorstenson, age 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 13, 2022. He was born November 9, 1943 in Muskegon to Richard and Goldie (Meeker) Thorstenson. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1961 where he played varsity football. Neal was a veteran of the United States Navy and served 1962-1966. On June 25, 1976, he married Frances Marie Stanley Rosenhauer in Muskegon. Neal worked over 40 years in commercial construction and retired as a Senior Project Manager after 10 years with Takenaka Corp. Neal was blessed to be a kidney transplant recipient on February 7, 2006. He was very active as a volunteer with Sportsmen for Youth Organization and enjoyed collecting prizes and t-shirts for the annual youth day event. He was past Exalted Ruler of the Elks in Columbus, IN, and past president of the Michigan Anglers Association. He was currently a board member of the Sportsmen for Youth and was a member of American Legion Post #9. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and also liked to spoil neighborhood children and give the dogs treats. Survivors include his wife, Frances Thorstenson; children, Joe Rosenhauer, Marilyn (Dan) Albaitis, Nancy (Jeff) Richmond, Bryan (Christine) Rosenhauer, Steven (Tessa) Thorstenson; grandchildren, Anne Albaitis, Kelsey (Arthur) Toal, Zack Albaitis, Lauren Richmond, Gregory Rosenhauer, R.J. Richmond, Morgan Rosenhauer, William Richmond, Sophie Rosenhauer, Magnus Thorstenson, Zooey Thorstenson; and 1 sister, Melanie Henderson. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Thorstenson and his mother, Goldie Daul; siblings, Burnetta Borgerding, Richard Thorstenson Jr, Julie (Les) Harper, Dan Thorstenson, Janice (Joe) Dube, Benjamin (Carly) Thorstenson, and Lorna Stephens. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 19, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Rev. Fr. Norman P. Droski presiding. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be offered by the U.S. Navy Honor Detail and the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
