Victor Eugene Chandonnet Sr.

August 10, 1927 - November 29, 2021

Victor E. Chandonnet, Sr., age 94, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at his home. He was born August 10, 1927 in Muskegon to John Urjelle and Flora Camille (Langlois) Chandonnet and lived his entire life in the area. Victor served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Japan. In 1949, he married Beverly J. Wood in Muskegon and she preceded him in death in 2012. He worked as a machinist for over 40 years at Muskegon Piston Ring before his retirement. Victor was a longtime member of St. Jean de Baptiste Catholic Church and most recently of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Lakewood Club. He was a lifetime member of the Muskegon Eagles and the VFW in Holton. He was loved by his grandkids and great grandkids who called him “Cookie Papa” because he had an endless supply of cookies for them. Victor enjoyed his home on Duck Lake and the views of the many sunsets from his window. He also enjoyed watching the birds, swimming in the lake and fishing. He was a fan of Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers. His hero was John Wayne and he could quote many of his famous lines from the movies. Victor was devoted to his God and his faith. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Survivors include 4 children, Monica (Ed) Merrill, Victor E. Chandonnet, Jr., Cindy (Bob) Bringedahl, Lexi (Bryan) Kust; 2 sons-in-law, Doug Charnock and Steve Waddell; 7 grandchildren, Andrew (Shelly) Rush, Rodney Chandonnet, Chad (Jennifer) Chandonnet, Rachael (Ryan) McEnhill, Casey (Alisha) Bringedahl, Zach Kust, Lauren Kust; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly J. Chandonnet; 2 daughters, Marla Charnock, Lisa Waddell; granddaughter, Alina Chandonnet; and his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church – The Marian Chapel (2929 McCracken St.), with Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11AM in The Marian Chapel. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Michigan Army National Guard Funeral Detail. Memorial Contributions in lieu of flowers may be directed to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
