Evon ('nee Southland) Laman's Obituary
Evon Janice Laman, age 76, of Holland, formerly of Japan, went to be with her Lord on Friday, September 23, 2011 from the Hospice House of Holland.
Evon was born on May 30, 1935 in Muskegon to William and Jennie (Noordhof) Southland. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hope College in 1957 and taught at Unity Christian High School prior to going with her husband Gordon to Japan where they served as missionaries in the Reformed Church in America for forty-three years. She was a member of Beechwood Church in Holland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Daniel Southland.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-four years, Gordon Laman of Holland; her children, Tim and Cheryl Laman of Lexington, MA, Lisa and Jim Luyk of Holland, Greg and Sue Laman of Ann Arbor; her grandchildren, Dan and Leah Luyk, Jesse and Katie Luyk, Russell Laman, Jessica Laman, Charlie Laman and Ben Laman; her brothers and sisters, Jack and Ellen Southland of Twin Lake, Phil and Joane Southland, Jean and Max Wierengo, Bill and Carla Southland, Gloria and Keith Shrum all of Muskegon; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Earl and Char Laman of Holland and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place; and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 2PM in the Auditorium of Freedom Village, 145 Columbia Avenue with Pastor Greg TenBrink officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Japan Mission of the Reformed Church in America.
