Barton, Pam, Karen and Val,

You are the family members my husband, Doug, and I knew, so I'm addressing this to you. I'm so sorry we missed your mom/sister's services. We didn't read the obituary in The Chronicle 'til late last week. My dad (Bud Meier)missed it, too. Since my mom died almost two years ago, he's not catching as much "news" as he used to.

We're sorry for your loss, for it's a loss to our extended family, too. Haroldine was a blessing to her family and to her church. How interesting that she and her mom, my great-Aunt Martha, were both bookkeepers. I never realized that.

May God keep you all in His care.

Haroldine was our president in the years of 1976 to l978. Her enthusiasm and good cheer were such an asset to our group. She demonstrated leadership in the areas of research and local history. She was a fine lady, good friend, and enthusiastic collector. I wish to express my deepest sympathy and condolances to the entire Westedt family as I am sure you are feeling a great loss today. Grandma Westedt will always have a warm place in my heart. She was aways kind to me as a child and truly made me feel as if I was one of her biological grandchildren. I have not seen her in many years now but I am sure she continued to be the same kind, wonderful person she always was. Be comforted by the knowledge that this life is just a short time compared to eternity that you will have to commune with her. May Heavenly Father Bless you all during this time with a sense of Peace and the knowledge that she is near you, just on the other side of the veil.

Haroldine Westedt was my Mom. Others have said many things about her. At times like this I wish I was a poet or a flowery writer. But I'm not. Trying to express who my Mother was to me is not easy.
Mom kept up with current events. She read continuously and she liked to discuss topics of all sorts. Oh how she liked to talk! Through the years we discussed many things.
She was ,of course, a wife and a mother but for the last forty years, she was my friend. But even more so for me and others who had the pleasure to talk with her about life and life's choices, she was a moral rock.
She was a concillator. while she had strong opinions about what was right or wrong, she always impressed on me that there was always another side to things, another point of view and that point usually was based on real experience or facts.
As an example of what I mean. She was adamently opposed to abortion and a general rule but she felt there might be times when it was the only option. But either way was a personal decision.
Mom was in fact deeply religious. She felt that it was personal and should not be verbalized directly but rather be lived every day in the way you interacted with people you meet and the way you conducted your life.
Simple things like getting something for nothing because the cashier entered it wrong is not a good deal, it is stealing. and she would say so. An employer taking advatage of his workers because they need the work was to her reprehensable and immoral. to her making money can be a good thing but it also carries with it the responsibility to help others.
She believed that standing up and saying you made a mistake and excepting the consequences of your actions was not heroic or laudable, it was to her, expected.
Helping the neighbor down the street, or stranded along the road, or in New Orleans was what is expected of us. It's not something to score points with GOD or to make political gain. It is just something you do because it is right.
Doing the right thing. She impressed on me that doing right by my neighbors and country was and is the only way to stand in front of my Creator and to be able to say "I've tryed hard Lord to do as Jesus taught."
Now Mom is gone. But, the lessons she taught will stay with me and others for years and maybe generations to come. I hope so.
I know that she has stood before God and said, "I've tried Lord" and his reply was "Yes you have."

Dear Nancy and Debbie;
It has been a long, long time (MANY YEARS!) and I'm not even sure you will remember me, but we were "friends" back in high-school; my name was Pam Hall back then...
I read about the "loss" of your mother in The Muskegon Chronicle tonight, and I just wanted to convey my sympathy to the two of you, and to the rest of your family as well -
I never met your parents, but your mother sounds like a special person, and I'm sure she will be DEEPLY missed!!!
I used to work for a hearing aid center and I used to talk to your dad at least once a year, sometimes twice to see if he wanted to come in and have a free hearing test done and I always told him that I had gone to school with the two of you and would ask him to tell you both "HI" for me and I often wondered if he remembered and did so...
Any way, my thoughts and prayers are with you now, at what I know is a very difficult time...

Dear Mom, To the greatest mother one could ever have.I'm surely going to miss you, but will always remember the great times that were had.The times when we went hunting and camping. It was great to be in mother natures beautiful out-of-doors with the birds,deer and all the other wildlife. The peace, quiet and campfires in natures great outdoors will always be remembered but will not be the same without you. With a Mother and teacher like you, these things will always be appreciated. We know that God had a plan to take you to be with Dad and Keith, although it is hard for us to understand, but who are we to judge His plans. You will always be in my heart.
