Leonard Paul D'Ambrosio's Obituary
Leonard D’Ambrosio, age 89, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, March 25, 2011. He was born in Chicago on June 16, 1921 and raised in the St. Joe/Benton Harbor area. Leonard married the former Ligia Antonia Blanco-Boix in Los Angeles, California in 1953 and she preceded him in death in 1992. In 1972, Leonard, Ligia and their two daughters moved to Grand Haven. Prior to his retirement in 1989, Leonard managed the Montgomery Ward’s Appliance Center in Holland and previously worked for Sears and the W.T. Grant stores. Leonard was a dedicated Christian activist who wrote countless letters to the editor, elected officials and church leaders and was involved in local demonstrations. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven. He is survived by his daughters; Maria (MSgt Adrian) Combe of Fairbanks, AK, and Ani D’Ambrosio of Chicago; one grandson, Justin D’Ambrosio of Milwaukee; and two granddaughters, Miriam and Naomi Combe of Alaska. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur D'Ambrosio and Raymond D'Ambosio. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven, 12 noon, Wednesday, March 30, 2011, with Fr. William Langlois and Fr. Matthew Barnum presiding. He will be laid to rest in Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven. Visitation will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100; 6-8 P.M., Sunday evening and one hour prior to the mass at church.
