Marianne L. (O'Callaghan) Sabec's Obituary
Mrs. Marianne L. (O’Callaghan) Sabec, age 77, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice. She was born August 18, 1931 in Ironwood, MI to Leo and Ann (Johnson) O’Callaghan and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. On July 11, 1953, Marianne married Aloysuis “Al” Sabec in Ironwood and he survives her. She was employed as a cashier for the Big Wheel Store in Whitehall and had also worked for the Muskegon Chronicle. Marianne was an active and devoted member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where she served on the Council of Catholic Women, was commissioned as a Eucharistic Distributor, RCIA Team Member, Sacristan and helped serve many funeral luncheons over the years. Marianne was also an active member of Right to Life of Michigan, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #599, and the DeColores/Cursillo Movements in Muskegon. SURVIVORS include her husband, Aloysuis “Al” Sabec; 10 children, Mark (Carol) Sabec of Kansas City, MO, Noreen (Warren) Reynolds of Muskegon, Richard “Rick” (Judy) Sabec of Muskegon, Mary Terese Desrochers of Manchester, NH, Jeanne Carnes of Hesperia, Joy (Mike) Young of Lansing, MI, Beth (Steve) Parker of Muskegon, Joseph Sabec of Winnamac, IN, Julie Kohler of Grand Rapids, Bryan (Kristen) Sabec of Lansing; 23 grandchildren, Joshua (Pam) Sabec, Heather (David) Rauner, Richard Jr. and Drew Sabec; Christopher (Jennifer), Tony Yeager; Brian and Brandon Bennett; Tiffany, Melanie and Nicholas Desrochers; Justin Sabec; Ashlynn Kohler; Jacob and Ally Young; Erinn and Evan Parker; Micha Sabec; Felicia Morris; Alexia, Zachary and Olivia Sabec; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Ann Sturgeon of Muskegon and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Trevor Sabec. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 1:00 PM Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Phillip A. Sliwinski as celebrant. INTERMENT will follow at Fruitland Township Cemetery. VISITATION with Marianne’s family will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210.
