Dick was on the board of directors at Michigan Spring for many years and I had a chance to talk to him quite often. He always kept himself in great shape and I knew he loved to run the trail bikes.
It was an honor to have known Dick.

I have so many awesome memories of growing up with Mr. Lague. He was so good to use "committee" girls. Visits to the cottage, jet skiing, water skiing, magic tricks, sky line chili, lobster dinners and visits to the Century Club for our 16th birthdays and he put up with lots of sleepovers with 7 very loud and silly girls a even scared us a few times at the cemetery in Twin Lake over the years. Will never forget that deep voice, the endless turtlenecks and those crystal clear blue eyes. He was a very special man and will be missed. Love you Shelley, Steve and Claudia. Robin and Scott Smith
After reading my twin brothers memory of Richard a similar memory came up but I recall a lot of it was in the same venue of Richard babysitting both Roger and I. I seriously do not remember the night that I I fainted when Richard attacked me at the top of the balcony but do remember this particular story. Once again it was a night my parents chose to go out and leave us with Richard once again the harmless fun began we got the BB guns out again . It's all a bit foggy but I do remember this at some point Roger and I got into a somewhat of a fight at the point I remember hanging him over the balcony choking him and him begging for his life . At some point I must've thought for the better and let him live at that point I think he went for Red Daisy he chased me through the house and down the back hill where he began to fire at me. Luckily from my combat training that I received from Richard I retaliated was able to take the upper hand and remove the weapon from Roger which I then started firing on him. Luckily none of our wounds were fatal and the rest of the evening is a bit foggy. Good times. Looking back I'm just thankful that he hadn't accumulated quite the gun collection that he had prior to his passing. Just the greatest big brother and babysitter anyone could've asked for. Ron. Our favorite campfire "Cookie" will be missed by our family more than words could ever express, especially his mean pot of Australian Dinkum Chili and his infamous lamb marinade. We love and miss you, Richard....your magic tricks too!

Having a Brother 8 years older than myself and my twin Ron, resulted in some interesting dynamics to be sure!. When we were 8, he was 16, a hip teenager with duck-tails,Mo-Ped (almost a motorcycle!) and getting into hot-roding cars. My Brother Ron and I were into Buddy Holly, Elvis and Roy Orbison before our classmates could wipe their own asses. I distinctly remember trick-or-treating and smoking Marlboro's thanks to my benevolent Big Brother Richard.
I could write stories all day long that you would find hilarious but one that is my favorite is when Richard would babysit for Ron and me. These were always looked forward too with varying degrees of anxious anticipation because they typically resulted in sever damage to the property or to me and Ron. Playing football in the living room, boxing matches on our trampoline and or unrestricted use of Richard's Red Ryder BB gun made these couple/three hours when our parents were gone seem like mere seconds.
Richard had a great Frankenstein mask he wore for Halloween. We lived in an old farm house built in the 1860's than had a long staircase up to the 2nd floor. Richard's bedroom was right at the top of the staircase. One night when he was sitting for us, we were probably about 9 years old, Richard told me to send Ron upstairs he had something to show him. Richard had turned out all the lights upstairs, put a black cape he had on along with his Frankenstein. mask and then took a pair of leather gloves that had rabbit fur lining and turned them inside out. When Ron got to the top of the stairs and turned the corner, Richard jumped out of his room and put those furry gloves around Ron's neck and screamed!!. Ron fainted and was out cold. Richard and I were laughing so hard were were crying. Ron didn't find it as amusing as we did!!
I will miss my Brother very much and thank him for all the wonderful times he provided for us throughout our childhood and beyond.

Shirley and I want to express our deepest sympathy to Claudia, Steve, Shelly and family.
Dick was so proud of his children and their accomplishments.
He was born in Ohio, however over the years found Michigan's wonderous nature at home, lake and the cabin.
Dick was a good friend and neighbor for over 40 years. He was always next door and now how sad we are 1000 miles away at this time of celebration of his life.
May the entire family find comfort at this time and the time to come.

Dear Claudia, and to Dick's Family,
I am so saddened to hear of your loss - our communities' loss. Dick was a gift to all of us. He was a natural leader with a great sense of humor (and terrific laugh). As Chair of the Hackley Hospital Board for so many years, he represented the independence, the pragmatism, the local pride, the commitment to quality and to knowledge that was such a part of the hospital culture. No one worked harder for the benefit of medicine - and top notch healthcare for all of us. I count as a blessing having had the opportunity to watch him work - hear his analysis - and see his leadership. May your memories remind you of your fortune in having him a part of your lives, and may you find peace in one another.
