Richard "Rich" O'Connell Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Richard L. O’Connell Jr., age 72, passed away Sunday evening, August 2, 2009, at his home. Rich was born September 1, 1936 in Muskegon to Richard L. and Margaret (Kirer) O’Connell. He had served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force. On March 16, 1957 he married the former Helen Vanderley and she preceded him in death on March 1, 2008. Rich was retired from Skipper Heating and Cooling and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He had volunteered at Fisherman’s Landing for many years. Richard is SURVIVED by his children, Jenny DeLong, Julle (Douglas) Daul, Kay (Jim) Shropp, and James O’Connell, all of Muskegon; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and many special friends and acquaintances Rich was also preceded in death by his “mother”, Barb O’Connell; daughters Rena “Chrissi” Christine O’Connell in January of 1966 and Marie O’Connell in June of 1979; son-in-law, Bill DeLong, Sr. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 930 Creston St. with Pastor Julie Winklepleck officiating.
