Used to be a "board op" for Gene and Jim Moyes when they broadcast sporting events. A great pair, but Gene was one of the nicest men! He really knew his stuff, and was a great guy.
Condolences to the family.

Dear Sandy and Family,
We're so sorry to learn of Gene's passing. He has left a great legacy to all those he met and worked with over the years. We are greatly appreciative for his hard work on the Just
Off the Green Board over the years. We will miss our great conversations at Norton Pines... he was a legend there!
Sincerely,
Byron and Marye Jane Comin
One of my fondest memories was a football Gene was broadcasting. It was a Mona Shores/Muskegon game at Mona Shores. At halftime Gene yelled down from the press box he wanted me to help him kill 10 minutes on the radio. I got up there and he looked out over the field and was so positive and happy. It was a beautiful night, the stands were full and Mona Shores was leading at that point. He said “Dave I have been waiting years to see this, so glad it is happening”. He was a friend and advisor.

It's hard to put into words how much Gene meant to me. I was blessed to see him not too long ago and catch up. Will never forget how his stories made me laugh. My condolences to his family. Judy Mead-Schaub

I first met Gene while playing basketball with him at Norton Pines in 1990 while I was finishing my teaching degree. He was a great competitor, but humble and had a wonderful sense of humor. He genuinely cared for everyone he knew, and put 110% into everything he did! He was responsible for taking a chance on me as an educator, hiring me at FCS. He was instrumental in my being at Fruitport for almost 25 years. I am grateful for all he did, and he will be missed!
Every one is correct in remembering that great smile of Gene. I was his Mom's hairdresser for many years & she was so very proud of him. My connection with Gene is also through the great game of basketball as I am married to Coach Jim Goorman. He always made you feel like he was glad to see you. Muskegon athletics will miss a great man. Sympathies to all of Gene's family & many friends.
