Edwin "Gene" Young's Obituary
Mr. Edwin “Gene” Young, 76, passed away Tuesday evening, January 2, 2018 in Muskegon. Gene was born November 7, 1941 to Edwin and Glenda (Lohrman) Young in Davenport, Iowa, and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. He taught and coached at Reeth Puffer School before becoming the Director of Community and Adult Education for the Fruitport Schools. Gene was an excellent athlete, participating in several sports, and was the president of the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame. Many will remember him for sports broadcasting with his friend, Jim Moyes. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. On June 10, 2000 he married Sandy Herrick, and she survives him along with 4 children, Darren (Nisreen) Young, Kelly Anderson, Kelly (Mike) Andrews, Brandon (Kristin) Herrick; 8 grandchildren, Jared (Katie), Connor, Kassie, Sydney, Tyler, Meeya, Evelyn and Ian; sister and brothers, Karen, Paul (Nancy), Bill (Mary); and many dear and lifelong friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Debbie. A service to celebrate and remember Gene’s life will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018, 1:00 PM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bill Uetricht officiating.
