Barbara-- sorry to hear of your loss.
Dear a Morse family and friends,
My condolences to you all.
I try to capture how meaningful my experiences were growing up with you and what, looking back at now, I see as the important lessons Jim gave to me-us. I connected first with MiMi (Cheryl), and Barbara. My sister, Christine, and I formed a deep bond with Barb and MiMi over dogs, horses, and then our, well let’s just call them, our teenage adventures. On a side note, I don’t know how Jim knew we were going to do something even before we knew we were going to do it.
Jim’s presence was both warm and formidable. He looked like a movie star, had a charismatic presence, a goofball sense of humor, and yet you never forgot he had rules, boundaries and expectations for your excellence. Above all, he had such a deep love for you and your friends. You could see it in his eyes when he looked at you, listened to you, laughed with you. I always felt that Jim was present in his interactions. You know as a kid you really look at adults, analyze their actions, responses, and sometimes think, I will not be like that, or the opposite, that’s how I want to be when I grow up. The later was true when I looked at Jim and Leah Rae. Their love for their large family, the way they both made it seem effortless-thanks Leah Rae, because I now know after raising two kids it is crazy hard work. That was a big lesson, make it look like it is easy, laugh and have fun along the way, and bring your family closer to you at every chance. And maybe throw in some good after school snacks! That was another mystery. There was a constant flow between our house and the Morse’s. And not just Chris and I, but all the friends of Jamie, Christy, Patti, Bobby, and Lee Ann. Somehow there were always good cookies and snacks.
So with tears in my eyes, and and an ache in my heart, I think of all the wonderful things Jim did that influenced me and that I will carry forward. Something my mom, Mary Ellen, said to me before she passed was to take the lessons, the great efforts our relatives put into making their life and ours, and carry it forward-pass it on to the next generation.
Now, if I could only do that chuckle of his and have that twinkle in his eyes. I think you know-it made you feel like his light shone only on you.
Thanks, Jim
Much love to you all,
