James Allen "Jim" Morse's Obituary
James Allen “Jim” Morse, age 87, passed away September 28, 2023, at the Poppen Residence. He was born on October 8, 1935, in Muskegon, MI. Jim was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. After graduating from St. Mary’s, Jim excelled at Notre Dame, captaining the 1956 fighting Irish. Jim continued playing football for the Calgary Stampeders. Football was always a passion, but family, Catholic education, real estate development, philanthropy, and aviation ownership were all close behind. Jim also enjoyed skiing, golfing and most importantly giving back.
On July 31, 1954, he married, Leah Rae Seymour and together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Leah Rae survives him along with six children, Barbara, Cheryl, Kristi, Patti, Lee Ann and Bobby; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jim Jr. in 1999.
A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place for Jim on Friday, October 6, 2023, 11:00am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St.) with Rev. Msgr. R. Louis Stasker presiding. VISITATION with the family will be Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 5pm to 8pm at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Muskegon Catholic Education Foundation or Harbor Hospice – Poppen Residence. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
