Evelyn C. Smith's Obituary
Evelyn C. Smith, age 75, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022 at her home. She was born May 29, 1946 in Muskegon to Gerrit and Loretta (Gallagher) Alderink and lived all of her life in the area. On September 21, 1963, she married Kenneth H. Smith in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2012. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Evelyn was a very devoted homemaker and raising her family was her passion. She often told her kids how proud she was of all her children. Ken and Evelyn’s home was affectionately known as “Shady 80” where she loved watching her kids and grandkids enjoy the ponds and land at their 80-acre property. Evelyn loved being at home as much as she could. After she raised her family, she went to work as a cashier at the Plumb’s Grocery located in Beltline Plaza where she made lasting friendships with many of the elderly and customers she served on a daily basis. The 13 years she worked at Plumb’s was a special part of her life. Evelyn especially enjoyed being with her family and attending many family reunions so she could catch-up with everyone. She was deeply loved by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed. Survivors include 6 children, Andrew Smith, Bernadette (Ron) Miller, Colleen Stanfield, Eugenia (Craig) Lehan, Matthew (Sarah) Smith, Natalie (Hector Holguin) Smith; 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Joe Alderink and 1 sister, Patricia Woodring; and special friend and caregiver, Doreen Lemon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Smith; 1 grandson, Jacob Miller; 2 granddaughters, Anna and Olivia Lehan; her parents; 1 brother, Eugene Alderink; and 2 sisters, Kathleen McKissack and Mary Ellen Lee.
