Our condolences on the loss of a great husband, father and friend. Russ was a part my earliest memories riding snowmobiles with friends and family in Baldwin. Whether it was talking football, business, or chatting at parent-teacher conferences, Russ had a way of making others at ease. His smile and infectious laugh were second to none. He generously offered me a job at one of his many successful business ventures to help get me through college. While there are no words to ease your pain at this time, please know that Russ left this world a better place. The Muskegon community will be forever greatful. Russ was an inspiration to all that knew him. He had a unique talent of making everyone feel as though you knew him for years even if it was the first time you met him. Not only a great family man and friend, but a teacher and community leader, and of course a great hunter and story teller. No one needs to tell you what a wonderful guy Russ was He was always quick with a smile and he had a knack for letting a person feel comfortable and welcomed. I have many great memories of days spent in an ice rink listening to Russ' game commentary, it was always positive and upbeat...just the way he lived his life.

I had the great, good fortune of learning many entrepreneurial skills from Russ's Dad, Clyde. Russ then perfected those same skills and added the sophistication of higher education. Nobody ever out worked Russ. He was a self made man. Russ was never about himself. He was all about his family, his community, his business and, of course, the University of Michigan.
