Russell C. "Russ" Strong's Obituary
Mr. Russell C. “Russ” Strong, age 55, passed away at his home Thursday, January 6, 2011. He was born November 21, 1955 in Muskegon to Clyde and Norma (Thompson) Strong, and resided in the area all of his life. Russ was a member of Westwood Reformed Church, and past Chairman of the Board of the Muskegon Chamber of Commerce in 2003. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1986, and went on to become the founder of Lakeshore Office Furniture, Grand Rapids Office Furniture, ScenTote and co-owner of Sportsmans Liquidation Outlet Store. Russ was a passionate outdoorsman and avid bow hunter. He enjoyed golfing with his wife Char, and supported his sons in youth hockey, baseball and football. On August 15, 1981 he married the former Charlene Rice, and she survives him along with 2 sons, Russell “Rusty” Strong of Muskegon, and Kevin Strong of Grand Rapids; mother, Norma Sutphen; brother, Scott (Leia) Strong of Grand Rapids; and 3 sisters, Nancy Mandt of New Era, Terry (Dave) Davies of Muskegon and Judy (Tom) Vandnais of Panama City, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Russ was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Strong; brother, Forrest Strong; and step-mother, Margaret Strong. The FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11AM Monday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey Norton Shores, MI 49444 231-798-1100, with Rev. Scott VanArendonk officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-5PM Sunday. Burial will take place in Norton Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to Westwood Reformed Church will be appreciated.
