Agnes (Hasia) Adamczak's Obituary
Agnes (Hasia) Adamczak, age 92, died on June 1, 2018. Agnes was born on May 5, 1926, to Nicholas and Mary (Iwanciw) Wasylkiw in Lisiatycze, Stryj, Ukraine. During World War II, German soldiers, "recruited" workers and Agnes, who was 16 at the time, went to work on a German farm. At 19, she met American Staff Sgt. Joseph J. Adamczak at a Displaced Person Camp and, after a three-month courtship, Agnes and Joe were married on September 1, 1945, in Wildflecken, Germany. The war was nearly at an end and Joe's unit returned to the United States the day after their wedding. He promptly filed the required papers to bring his bride to the United States, and on May 19, 1946, Agnes arrived in New York on the S.S. Brazil. Agnes became a United States citizen on January 9, 1951. Joe and Agnes worked long hours together building and selling a number of homes in Lakeside and Roosevelt Park. Joe passed away suddenly on February 19, 1995, just six months short of their 50th wedding anniversary. They were lifetime members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and the Polish Falcons. Their children survive them: Mary (Frank) Haara, Edward (Pam) Adamczak, Helen (Henry) Kling, Steven (Candy) Adamczak, and Kathy (Christopher) Ruiter; along with her grandchildren, Kris Haara, Brian (Laura) Haara and their children, Madeline and Bennett; Matthew (Maria) Kling and their daughter, Maya; and Lorie (Jeff) Barnes, and their daughter, Autumn. Agnes also leaves her two sisters, Natalie and Olanka of Ukraine; a very special niece and nephew, Krystyna Perdew and Walter Twardus; as well as many other dear relatives and friends. VISITATION will be on Monday, June 4, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 Sherman Blvd., 231-759-8565, with the rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Father Charles D. Hall at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1716 Sixth St., Muskegon on Tuesday, June 5 at 11:00 A.M. A luncheon will be served at the school following the service. Private interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions: St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church or Harbor Hospice Foundation.
