Agnes L. Vander Zwaag's Obituary
Agnes Louise Vander Zwaag, age 90, of Grand Haven, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 in Hickory, NC. She was born in June of 1922 in Grand Haven, to Orrie and Susie (Vander Wall) DeBruyn. She married Herman Vander Zwaag in June of 1941 in Grand Haven, and he preceded her in death in February of 1993.
Agnes worked as one of the "Rosie the Riveters", building airplanes during WWII while her husband served in the Marine Corps. at Miramar.
She was a member of First Reformed Church in Grand Haven where Agnes was on the original Hymn Sing Committee and helped with the Junior Choir. She was a Girl Scout leader, an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, sewing, and cross stitch.
Agnes is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jane (Al) Woodward of Hickory, NC; two grandchildren, Kimberley (Paul) van der Hoeven and Tyler Woodward; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, and her five brothers: Case, Arnold, Claude, Don, and Bobby DeBruyn.
The Funeral Service for Agnes will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. John Kenny officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
