Alan "Har" Cross' Obituary
Mr. Alan “Har” Cross, of Roosevelt Park, passed away on December 4, 2024. He was born on October 24, 1944, in Muskegon Heights to Pearl (Wierengo) and Ottie Cross. Alan graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1962 and married the former Kathleen Butas on October 3, 1970, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He retired as a cabinet maker working for Duprey Kitchens and Kitchens by A & B. Alan had been active in Roosevelt Park Youth Athletics for many years as a baseball coach and equipment manager, served as President for Muskegon Chiefs Hockey Organization. He served as secretary/treasurer for Muskegon Business Man’s Golf Association, and volunteered his time towards Mona Shores Hockey & Band. Alan was also a member of the Viking Linne Lodge 57 in Muskegon.
He loved to hunt, fish, work in his garden and spend time with his family. He enjoyed turning his entire backyard into an ice rink for his sons and the neighborhood kids every winter.
Alan is survived by his sons: Jeffrey A. (Sarah) and grandsons, Owen and Emmett of Grand Haven, and Thomas R. (Elizabeth) of Norton Shores, and grandchildren, Lucas and Penelope, and brother-in-law, Leo (the late Kay) Deuster of Norton Shores. He is also survived by in laws, Emily (the late Richard) Hughes of Muskegon and Joseph (Marilyn) Connell of Streetman, Texas, as well as nephews: Michael and Mandi (Todd) Grovsenor, Rick and Rachel (Jordan Goforth) Hughes of Muskegon and Kevin Connell of Austin, Texas, and his aunt, Bette (the late Wayne) Strayer of Fruitport. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathleen on December 25, 2020; parents, Pearl in 1977 and Ottie in 1987.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 12, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Har may be given to the Poppen Residence – Harbor Hospice Foundation or Noah Project - Muskegon.
