Alan Lee Vande Vusse's Obituary
Alan Lee Vande Vusse, age 80, passed away June 18, 2025. He was born August 31, 1944 in Holland, Michigan to Raymond and Leona (Nykamp) Vande Vusse. Alan honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years. He was a Past Commander of the Holland VFW Post #2144, a member of the Shoreline Detachment #1027 Marine Corps League, and took part in the firing detail with the Grand Haven American Legion Post #28. He dedicated 32 years to the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a clerk and later as a Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement. Alan was also a member of White Lake Wesleyan Church.
He had a deep appreciation for nature, enjoying bird watching and photography, and loved to travel—especially to the Dominican Republic. University of Michigan football was also a lifelong passion for Alan who had season tickets for over 30 years. Alan also loved listening to all kinds of music.
On January 24, 1969, Alan married Sharon Jongsma. They shared 44 years of marriage before her passing on December 8, 2013.
SURVIVORS include two daughters, Carrie (Kevin) Bartlam and Marikje (David) Hill; five grandchildren: Nick Johnson, Gavin and Seth Bartlam, Elizabeth and Audrey Hill; brother, Michael Vande Vusse; sister, Laurie (Bert) Parsons; and two daughters from a previous marriage, Barb Brown and Lisa Schneider. Alan was also preceded in death by a brother, Steven Vande Vusse.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE celebrating Alan’s life will be held at 4pm on Saturday June 28 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100 with Pastor Tom Coffey officiating. A light meal will follow the service.
VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 3-4pm. Military Honors will also be performed in Alan’s honor. Burial will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
