Alan Henry Bergmans, DDS's Obituary
Alan Henry Bergmans, DDS, raised to glory July 9, 2010, was born in Grand Rapids, MI on September 27, 1952 to Elmer and Alice (Behrens) Bergmans. Raised in Grandville, MI, he graduated from Union High School in 1970, received his bachelor’s degree from Albion College, and earned his D.D.S. from the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry. Upon graduation from U of M, he moved to Muskegon, where he established his dental practice, serving the general public until the day before he passed. An accomplished tennis player, Alan won the #1 singles championship for the Grand Rapids City League in 1970. He continued his love for the game into his adult life. Alan also enjoyed fishing, golfing, skiing, sailing and attending U of M football games. He always made time for children, whether in his act as “Uncle Heimie” or climbing up on the roof on Christmas Eve to be sure there were visible signs of Santa’s arrival and departure. He gave of himself to his family, a virtue not to be forgotten. Besides his parents, his sister, Gladys, predeceased. Surviving to cherish their memories are his wife, Susan Jewell Bergmans; stepson, Jordan Fairbanks, of North Muskegon; sister, Carolyn (Robert) DeVries, sister, Pamela (J.Stephen) Marshall, and brother, Brian (Robin) Bergmans all of Grand Rapids. Also surviving are seven nieces and nephews and nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey Street (231) 798-1100 www.sytsemafh.com with Rev. Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Rosedale Memorial Gardens in Standale, MI. VISITATION with his family will be 5-8 PM Tuesday and one hour prior to the service, 2-3 PM Wednesday. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to the Greater Muskegon Service League Women and Children’s Fund or the charity of your choice. The memory of the just is blessed.
