Mrs. Alberta Mellema's Obituary
Mrs. Alberta Mellema, 94, went home to be with the Lord late Thursday evening, May 22, 2014 in Muskegon. She was born April 4, 1920 to Gerritt and Grace (Dykema) Wierengo in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Mellema had been a member of the former East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church where she served as the craft teacher for the Friendship Circle, and was currently a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church. She also had worked as a floral designer for Bos Floral and Flowers by Barb. Alberta married John Mellema on July 12, 1940 in Muskegon, and he preceded her in death on April 30, 2000. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Peter Mellema of Kentwood, Thomas (Mary Ann) Mellema of Nunica, Grace (Richard) Medendorp of Roosevelt Park; grandchildren, Rebecca (Paul) Hoekstra, Daniel (Jessica) Stout II, John Mellema and Elizabeth Mellema; step-grandchildren, David (Erin) Medendorp and Steve Medendorp; 1 great-grandson, Daniel Stout III,4 step great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Paige, Riley, and Chandler Medendorp; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ed, George, Bill, John and Hank Wierengo, Grace Zandstra, Jeanette DeWall, Katherine Wolffis, and Martha Herman.
