This is a voice from the distant past. I now live in Traverse City and saw the obit in our paper. 40+ years ago Mr. and Mrs. Rockwood were avid supporters of the music program at the First Congregational Church in Muskegon. I was a school child under the private music tutelage of the director, John L. Wheeler. Even though I was not a member of the Church, Mr. Wheeler brought me in to sing in his intermediate choir, along with some of the Rockwood kids, and to do some solo work now and again at various holiday services. At 14 we presented my first solo recital at the Church and Mr. Rockwood was in attendance. He was always the first to congratulate and support my work, and he might be surprised to learn how I have always remembered his kindness to me in those very early days.
