Alexander Wesley Halberda's Obituary
Alexander Wesley Halberda, age 79, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at The Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. He was born November 30, 1941, in Windsor, Canada, to Alex and Irene B. (Korgenski) Halberda. In 1955 he received his United States Certificate of Citizenship. Alex attended and graduated from Wayne Memorial High School and was a member of the track and field team and during that time, he received medals in the 880, mile and cross country. Following high school, he briefly attended Ferris State University.
Alex went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. There he met and later married Loretta Weinert on July 31, 1965 and together they had three wonderful children. He later married Paula Wasalyk, who preceded him in death on March 1, 2008. Alex spent his working years in the machining industry and in 1987 relocated to Southwest Florida were he later retired. Alex enjoyed reading, listening to music and had a passion for Model Railroading.
Alex is lovingly remembered by his children, Christopher “Chris” (Jane) Halberda, David (Lucy) Halberda and Jennifer “Jenny” (John) Stalzer; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his brother, Thomas (Pat) Halberda. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Grabon.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021 at the Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge Street, Spring Lake, MI 49456.
