Alfons "Butch" John Helsen's Obituary
Alfons "Butch" John Helsen age 60, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at home in the care of his loving family.Butch was born on May 19, 1961 and raised in Ravenna with his five brothers and one sister. Shortly after high school, he married his “Honey†Ann Marie (French) Helsen on September 28, 1985 at St. Catherines Catholic Church. Butch and Ann began their life together, settled in Ravenna where they raised their two children. He lived a life dedicated to his family and friends, hunting, fishing, baking and gardening. Butch will always be remembered for his gentle kindness, love for his family, and appreciation of nature and all it’s beauty.Butch is survived by his wife of 36 years: Ann M. Helsen of Ravenna, son: Aaron (Jillian) Helsen of Ravenna and daughter: Jacquelyn (Scott) Hilgeman of Ravenna. Granddaughters: Ensley Rose Hilgeman(6), Norah June Helsen(5), Josie Allyn Helsen(2), and Asa Ann Hilgeman(1). Parents: Eugene and Margaret Helsen of Ravenna. Siblings: Tony (Jane) Helsen of Ravenna, Dave Helsen (Lora Kalkofen) of Newaygo, Chris Helsen of Sparta, Leo Helsen (Molly McCready) of Ravenna, Louie (Sally) Helsen of Ravenna, and Lorri (Terry) Farr of Arizona. Butch is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends that were like family.He was preceded in death by his Father In-Law: Robert French. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 11:00am at the St. Catherines Catholic Church in Ravenna with Father Andrew Ayers celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Catherines Catholic Cemetery in Ravenna.The family will greet friends on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm at St. Catherines Hall and again on Thursday at the church 1 hour prior to Mass. Rosary will be prayed at 8:00pm Wednesday at the hall.
