Alfred George Lawson V's Obituary
Alfred George Lawson V, age 46, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born May 24, 1971 in Grand Rapids, MI to Alfred G. and Merriann K. (Dodge) Lawson, Jr and lived in the area all his life. Al worked as a truck driver for Verplank Trucking the past 12 years. On October 26, 1994, he married the former Toni Lee Storms in Grand Haven, MI. Al was an active member of Grand Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served as a deacon, greeter and all around handyman. Al had a special hobby making maple syrup which was quickly becoming a new career. He especially enjoyed camping and found much joy cooking breakfast for his family and friends. Al was a backup crew for hot air ballooning. Al was a good listener and could talk to anyone because he knew no strangers. He will be greatly missed by those who had the honor to know him. SURVIVORS include his wife, Toni L. Lawson; 3 children, Tiffany (fiancé Justin Henson) Pearson, Jordan Lawson, Jacob (Bobbi Jo Matheny) Lawson; his parents, Al and Merriann Lawson, Jr.; his mother- and father-in-law, Sally and Ron McDowell; grandmothers, Edna Dodge and June Slagle; 1 brother, Lyle (Cindi) Lawson; 2 sisters, Laura (David) Lawson-Beauchamp, Angela (Mike) Rose; 1 sister-in-law, Tonya (fiancé, Kyle Bross) Slagle; nieces and nephews, Caleb Brown, Joe Lawson, Hunter Rose, Tegan Rose; and little buddy, Rowen McDowell. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Kenneth Dodge, Dean Slagle, Alfred G. Lawson; and his grandmother, Geneva Lawson. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held on Al’s birthday, 11:00 AM Thursday, May 24, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Pastors Jonathon Walter and Jarod Thomas officiating. VISITATION will take place 5-8 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service, 10-11 AM Thursday. INTERMENT will take place at Fruitport Township Cemetery with Luncheon to follow at Grand Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church, 15051 177th Street, Grand Haven, MI.
