Mr. Alfred James "Al" Rogers' Obituary
Mr. Alfred James “Al” Rogers, age 85, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 in Muskegon after a long illness. He was born January 13, 1927 in Muskegon to Melvin and Gladys (Garner) Rogers. Al served in the U.S. Navy for two periods, at the end of WWII and returned to serve during the Korean War. He married the former Dorothy M. Waddell and she preceded him in death in 1985. He later married the former Dorothy M. Gilmore on September 16, 1986 and she survives him. Al worked as an accountant for Brunswick Corporation in Muskegon where he retired in May 1989. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and was a square dancer for many years. Al was a member of the Moose Lodge in Muskegon. Along with his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his sons, Steven (Theresa) Rogers, Roy Rogers, Wayne Rogers; his daughter, Kathy (Robert) Smith; his stepson, Kim (Karen) Gilmore; his stepdaughters, JoAnn (Mike) Panzl, Suelyn (Scott) Brodie, Kristina (Ernie) Varela; 20 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and his sister, Letha (Orrville) Hammerle. Al was also preceded in death by brothers, Freeman Rogers, Melvin Rogers, Jr., and sisters, Thelma Baxter, Zella Davis, and Glenda Baker. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565 with Pastor John H. Brown officiating. ENTOMBMENT will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. VISITATION will be held one hour prior, 10-11 AM Wednesday.
