Alice H. Fowler's Obituary
Alice H. Fowler, age 94, died peacefully in her sleep December 12, 2010 at Freedom Village in Holland. Alice was born August 18, 1916 to H. Lewis and Edith (Huntting) Herring in Islip, Long Island, New York. She was married to Harold Ellsworth Fowler on August 2, 1942, in Sayville, Long Island, New York. Harold preceded her in death on August 24, 1970.
Alice graduated from Wells College in Aurora, New York, in 1938. She then attended Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Library Science in 1939. Alice worked as the Children’s Librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library for numerous years. She was a voracious reader, and she also enjoyed gardening, golf, and crafts. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven.
Alice is lovingly remembered by one daughter, Judith (Jim) Dollar of Bella Vista, AR; two sons: Scott (Rev. Karin) Fowler of Grand Haven and Jeff (Nancy) Fowler of Bradyville, TN.; six grandchildren: Andrew (Kristi) Fowler, Ryan (Kelsy) Fowler, Kimberly Shannon, Sara Enid (Darrell) Land, Rachael Williamson, Alya (Ruston) Dickens; six great-grandchildren: Emily and Christian Fowler, Jack Fowler, Avery and Ella Land, and Lily Williamson; a sister: Barbara (Kenneth) Meierdierks of Florida. Alice was preceded in death by her brother, James Herring.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in honor of Alice may be given to the Rev. Karin Fowler Pastoral Care Fund at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, One South Harbor Dr., Grand Haven, Michigan 49417.
