Alice R. Van Lente's Obituary
Mrs. Alice R. Van Lente, age 89, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006. She was born on January 7, 1917 to James and Delvina (Dion) Koskuba and resided in the West Michigan area most of her life. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Muskegon and St. Gregory Catholic Church in Hart and sang with both choirs. In 1967, she was named “Greater Muskegon’s Ideal Mother,” was active with the March of Dimes, Panel of Americans, March for the Crippled Children, and Youth for Understanding. She was a strong believer in the Civil Rights movement and was active member in the NAACP of Muskegon. Another significant role she played was with the Muskegon Mexican exchange student program. Mrs. Van Lente worked as a public relations manager for Goodwill Industries for 10 years, prior to her retirement. On November 24, 1937, in Muskegon, she married Ralph Van Lente and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2006. SURVIVORS include 9 children, James (Sue) Van Lente of Portland, OR., Rev. Fr. Richard Van Lente of Conklin, MI, Robert (Sue) Van Lente of Portland, MI., Wm. Van Lente of Inyokern, CA, Mary Kay Van Lente of North Muskegon, Joe (Beth) Van Lente of North Muskegon, John (D’Ann) Van Lente of Cape Coral, FL., Gretchen Van Lente of North Muskegon, Peggy (Rod) Schaub of Muskegon; daughter-in-law, Linda Van Lente of Berwick, PA; 23 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Rosemary Allen of Muskegon. Mrs. Van Lente was also preceded in death by her son, Tom and 2 sisters, Margaret Ann and Mary Louise. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place 11:00 AM Saturday April 29, 2006 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Hart, MI with the Rev. Fr. Richard Van Lente and Rev. Fr. Ron Schneider as con-celebrants. VISITATION with the family will be Friday, 6-8 PM at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 and one hour prior to the service at the church. For a more lasting memorial you are asked to consider Hospice of Muskegon/Oceana or the Mission Fund of St. Gregory. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon.
