Alida "Lee" Zimmerman's Obituary
Alida “Lee” Zimmerman, age 86, of Spring Lake went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 8, 2008, at a local care facility. She was born October 7, 1922, in Chicago, IL, to Henry and Catherine (Ploeger) Plantenga, and she married Edward H. Zimmerman, Jr. on May 29, 1948, in Spring Lake. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2006.
Lee was a 1939 graduate of Chicago Christian High School and had resided in the Tri-Cities area since 1947. She was formerly employed by Plantenga’s Cleaners. She was a member of Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church where she was active in the Lydia and Mary Martha Circles and had also assisted with Vacation Bible School for many years. Lee was a people person and she enjoyed walking, traveling, biking and baking – especially her banana bread.
She is survived by two sons, Edward H. Zimmerman III of Spring Lake and Kenneth (Kathy) Zimmerman of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren: Benjamin (Ashley) Zimmerman, Bradley (fiancée Autumn Merritt) Zimmerman, Leah Zimmerman, and Matthew Zimmerman; a brother, Gilles (Dorothy) Plantenga of San Marcos, CA; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Plantenga of Spring Lake and Wilma Plantenga of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Conrad Plantenga.
The service for Lee will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2008, at Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Drew Sweetman and Rev. James VanderMeiden officiating. Friends may meet the family 4-7 p.m. Thursday, December 11, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
