Allan Lee Plantenga Sr.'s Obituary
Allan Lee Plantenga, Sr. age 70, passed away Christmas night at home. He was born September 15, 1950, in Grand Haven, to Henry and Bertha (Hoekstra) Plantenga, Sr., and married Martha Louise Pagacz on September 11, 2005, in Whitehall, MI.
Al proudly served his country as a 1st Recon Marine in the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong resident of Spring Lake and owned and operated Plantenga’s Dry Cleaners. Al was proud to be a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and also sang in the Lakeshore Barbershop Chorus. His other interests were golfing, water skiing and running marathons.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Martha Plantenga; son, Allan Lee (Kim) Plantenga, Jr.; daughter, Julie (Greg) Carlson; stepmother, Nancy Plantenga; three grandchildren: Nathan Plantenga, Emily Plantenga and Ryan Carlson; three sisters: Deb (Maureen) Eaton, Cindy (Tim) Hoffman and LeAnn (Rick) Glasser; three brothers, Richard (Cheryl) Plantenga, Bill Riley and Pete Riley; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry “Hank” Plantenga, Jr. and sister-in-law, Tracy Riley.
A visitation for Al will be held from 12 Noon – 4 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E. Savidge St, Spring Lake, MI 49456. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private funeral with Chaplain Bruce Kalish officiating and military rites accorded by the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post # 28 Honor Guard. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, please briefly pay your respects, to allow others, to pay their respects. Memorial contributions to Tri-Cities Alano Club are appreciated.
