Mr. Allen J. Barney's Obituary
Mr. Allen J. Barney, age 78, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at his home. Allen was born February 13, 1936 in Muskegon to Rolla F. and Anna (Lods) Barney. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1955-1958. On July 15, 1977 he married the former Dorothy M. Ferrier and she survives him. Allen was employed by Johnson Products, Hy-Lift Division, for 42 ½ years prior to his retirement in 1998. Al was a former member of Oakwood Baptist Church, a longtime member of the Muskegon Heights Eagles and U.A.W. Local # 1070. Allen and Dorothy loved to travel and enjoyed their time spent in Florida. Allen also enjoyed playing bingo and trips to the casino. Most of all, he enjoyed the time spent with his family. In addition to Dorothy, Allen’s wife of 36 years, he is survived by his children, David A. (Jean) Barney of Muskegon and Nancy (Ronald) Charles of West Olive; Dorothy’s children, Denise M. (Roger) Greve of Whitehall, Linda G. Layman of Whitehall, Diane T. Tyler of Fruitport, Mark A. Kitchen of Muskegon and Constance L. Ruud of Whitehall; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Gene Barney of Muskegon, Ishmael (Amy) Barney of Kentucky and John (Shirley) Barney of Texas; a sister, Mercy (Michael) Ward of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Bradley Kitchen. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 7, 2014 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 3252 Apple Ave., with Rev. Fr. Antony Britto as presider and Full Military Rites afforded. VISITATION will be Sunday from 2-5 PM at The Sytsema Chapel 737 Apple Avenue 231-726-5210
Interment will be made in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Harbor Hospice.
