Mrs. Alma M. Evoy's Obituary
Six months after celebrating her 100th birthday, Mrs. Alma M. (Stone) Evoy, died peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2016 with her family at her side. Born to Clifford and Grace (Reed) Stone on August 8, 1915 in Newaygo County, she was raised after age 8, by her maternal grandparents, Carrie and Lewis Reed along with her brother, Lloyd. A graduate of Fremont High School, she married Thomas J. Evoy of White Cloud in May of 1937. From a family farm in White Cloud the family, including two daughters, moved to Grandville where three more daughters were born. In 1947 they moved to their home in Muskegon where Alma remained for the rest of her earthly years. After raising her children, she continued to care for other families’ children with a short period of employment with the State of Michigan at the Developmental Center. She was then blessed with 5 grandchildren. Along with Tom, she enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family in many states. She was known for her quiet and gentle manner and was loved by many. Alma was a member of Dalton Baptist Church for over 50 years. SURVIVORS include her daughters, Joann (Gene) Crancer, Mary (Frank) Dobosz, Gerry Ashley and Sally Webb; her grandchildren, David (Tonya) Springer, Bruce (Alicia) Springer, Jeremy (Valerie) Webb, Carrie Webb Boysen and Laura (Pico) van Houtryve; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her son-in-law, Walter Springer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her daughter, Kay Springer; her brother, Lloyd Stone; her son-in-law, Herbert Ashley; and half sister, Betty Coles. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. with Rev. Scott Church officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Muskegon Rescue Mission or Noah Project.
