Mr. Alvin Jay Maat's Obituary
Mr. Alvin J. Maat, age 89, of Sullivan Township passed away unexpectedly on Saturday June 26, 2021, at his residence. He was born on October 22, 1931, in Fremont MI to Grace Klooster and Henry Maat.
Alvin grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School; he worked at his family farm to provide for his family. Alvin enjoyed riding around on his tractor, reading history books and was a cat lover. He was employed by the MATS bus system as a bus driver for 20 years. Alvin enlisted into the Army and was deployed in the Korean War. He was a member of the Two Cylinder Tractor Club, the American Legion, and the VFW Post 446.
He is survived by his sons, Harold Maat of Muskegon, MI, Harley Maat of Fremont, MI; daughters, Una (David) Ebert, Ursula Drake of Kechi, Kansas; 8 grandchildren; 4 greatgrandchildren; special friends, Betty and Geoff Horvath; Marilyn Deur. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry, and Grace Maat; his stepmother Bertha Maat; and his beloved cat Belle.
A GRAVESIDE service will take place on Wednesday July 7, 2021, at 11:00AM at Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars or Humane Society. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com
