Mr. Alvin W. Morefield's Obituary
Mr. Alvin W. “Al” Morefield, age 79, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at his home in Norton Shores. He was born in Lansing, MI on April 14, 1935 to William A. and Gladys I. (Elden) Morefield. Al attended Michigan State University and remained a life-long fan and supporter of the school. He left college to join the United States Army and served as a code breaker. After his service, he was employed by the Department of Natural Resources for 31 years before retiring in 1988 as the assistant manager of the Muskegon State Park. Al was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a founding member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He was a dedicated volunteer at The Dispute Resolution Center and formed many great friendships there. Al was a loving family man and started each day by sending his grandchildren a morning text message. He took great joy in his children and grandchildren’s sports events and spent many years coaching and watching their games, even into their adult years. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed hunting and fishing. On September 14, 1963, Al married the former Linda Lois Hess at St. Edward Catholic Church in Omer, MI and she survives him along with their two children, Joseph “Joe” Morefield and Cynthia “Cindy” (Jeffrey) Morefield-Pinder; four grandchildren, Anthony, Courtney, Teddy and Cassie; one brother, Thomas Morefield and two sisters, Mary Krokker and Ethel Haring. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum presiding. VISITATION will be from 4-8 PM Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. MEMORIALS to The Dispute Resolution Center would be appreciated.
