Alvin J. Schuitema's Obituary
Alvin Jay Schuitema, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 5, 2018. He was born March 20, 1926 in Muskegon to Frank and Clara (Kamp) Schuitema. Al served his country during WWII in the United States Army. On July 6, 1950 he married the former Marva J. Vanderlaan in Muskegon. He was the custodian for Unity Reformed Church for many years prior to retiring in 1991. Al was an active member of his church, loved to hunt and fish, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with his family. SURVIVORS include his beloved wife, Marva; 4 children: Carl (Debra) Schuitema of Kent City, Jay (Deb) Schuitema of Spring Lake, Barbara Bennett of Fruitport, Julie (Jeff) Wierengo of Ravenna; daughter-in-law, Sharri Schuitema of Twin Lake; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Schuitema; brothers: Ralph and Peter; and sister, Arlene. SERVICES for Al will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Unity Reformed Church (1521 Porter Rd., Muskegon, MI 49441) with Pastor David Celeskey officiating. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Monday, April 9, 2018 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210.
