Alvina Barsema's Obituary
Mrs. Alvina Barsema, age 96, passed away early Thursday morning, April 29, 2004 in Lansing, IL. She was born January 13, 1908 to Harry and Clara (Retsema) Sterenberg in Muskegon, and lived most of her life here before moving to Fort Smith, AR, Grand Haven, and finally to Illinois 8 years ago. She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Lansing, was a former member of Allen Ave. Christian Reformed Church in Muskegon, and Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven. On November 21, 1934 she married Herman J. Barsema, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1987. SURVIVORS include 3 daughters, Iris (Paul) Persenaire of Lansing, IL, Phyllis Klapmust of Clifton, NJ, Marcia (James) Jansen of Sunnyside, WA; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Jay (Hazel) Sterenberg of Roosevelt Park; 3 sisters, Ethel Milkamp of IL, Bernice “Bun” Ossink of AL, Helen (Jim) Powell of Muskegon. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Albert Klapmust; a brother, Edward “Etch” Sterenberg; a sister, Kathryn Schuitema. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday at
