Alvinia Delaine Black, age 62, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017. Alvinia was born on September 20, 1954. She was the oldest child of Yvonne and Blois Simmons Sr. Alvinia was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High school class of 1972. She worked as a CNA for Sanctuary at McAuley. Alvinia enjoyed crocheting, hosting family gatherings, playing Po-ke-no, taking trips to the casino and dancing. She was a faithful wife, devoted friend, loving mother, supportive sister, adoring grandmother, and angelic daughter. She will be deeply missed. Alvinia is survived by her husband, James Black Sr.; father, Blois Simmons Sr; mother, Yvonne Simmons-Harris; 3 beautiful daughters, Sylonaca Joy Evans, Chesona (Charles) Head, and Geneva (Trell) Evans; step-children, Steven, Carmela and James Jr.; grandchildren, Tiarra, Dexter, Dyvina, Javontae, Dallas, Savion, Tyrique, Gavynn, and Kermoni; great-grand children, Terrion, Nyeema, and Xavier; brothers, Trent (Rose) Simmons, Keith Simmons and Blois Jr. Simmons; sisters, Yvetta (Tyrone) Stuckey and Lashae Simmons; and god children, Noble, Nikki, and Stacey. She was preceded in death by her biological father, Henry Williams; and grandson, Anthony Lang Jr. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 1pm on Monday, January 16, 2017. Pastor Trent Williams will be officiating at The Zion Baptist Church, 375 School St. VISITATION will be held at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210, from 3pm-7pm on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Open remarks by friends, and loved ones can be shared with the family from 5pm-7pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for Alvinia's grandchildren's educational expenses.
