Mr. Andrew Carson, Sr.
January 8, 1944 – April 12, 2026
Mr. Andrew Carson, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2026, in Muskegon, Michigan.
Andrew was born on January 8, 1944, in Utica, Mississippi, to Sherman and Rosie Mae (Cooper) Carson Sr. He later moved to Muskegon, where he became a proud graduate of Muskegon Heights High School, Class of 1962. During his high school years, Andrew was a member of the State Championship Basketball Team, a memory he carried with pride throughout his life.
Andrew honorably served his country during the Vietnam War while stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he worked for Sealed Power Corporation for 31 years before retiring in 2002.
A man of faith, Andrew attended Morning Star Church and founded the Muskegon Van Club. He was known for his warm spirit, love for fellowship, and his cherished time spent with his “Burger King Coffee Buddies.”
On March 23, 1974, Andrew married the love of his life, Velma Jo Trice, in Muskegon, Michigan. Together, they shared 52 beautiful years of marriage, building a legacy of love, family, and devotion.
Andrew leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Velma Carson; seven children: Luther Graham, Lisa (Lenny) Carson Brown, Tarra Carson, Andrew Carson II, Cory (Michelle) Hardy, Andrea Hardy, and Carlos Hardy; along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He held a special bond with his grandchildren, Taylor Carson Zachery, John Zachery III, and his godson, Mark Thomas Jr.
He is also survived by his siblings-in-law, Willie (Mary) Smith, Ronald Trice, and Ann Blanchard; his dear neighbors, The Hinton Family; and a loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Sherman Carson Jr. and Rosinea Johnson Pickens.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at New Life Christian Center of Muskegon, 1624 Hoyt St., Muskegon, MI 49442, with Pastor Joe Lane officiating.
Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
