Mr. Andrew Groeneveld's Obituary
Mr. Andrew Groeneveld, age 92, passed away January 5, 2015 at a local hospital. Andrew was born November 9, 1922 in Muskegon Heights to William and Gertrude( VanderStelt) Groeneveld. He served his Country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Andy obtained his degree in Metallurgy from Michigan Tech and started his career working with CWC for his first 5 years. He then spent the next 27 years at Howmet, becoming a supervisor and retiring in 1985. Andy married the former Doris Hanzi on November 23, 1951 in Houghton, MI; and she survives him. He grew up in the Berean Church and later attended Mona Shores Baptist Church. Andy was a former member of the Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed football and followed the Muskegon Heights sports programs throughout the years. Most of all, Andy loved the time spent with his family. In addition to Doris, his wife of 64 years, Andy is survived by his children, Judith Kay (Ronald) Daggett of Rochester Hills, Michael C. Groeneveld of Alexandria, VA., Bruce James (Phyllis) Groeneveld of Muskegon and Carl R. (Peggy) Groeneveld of Houghton, MI; 7 grandchildren, Andy, Emily, and Dan Groeneveld, Joshua (Becky) Groeneveld, Tim (Kristi) Daggett, Sarah (Rob) Cucheran, and Paul Daggett; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, Zager, John, Dick, and Murten; and a sister, Dorothy Parmalee. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2015 with Ronald Daggett officiating at the Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service, (12 noon until 1PM). MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to the charity of your choice.
