Andrew "Ted" Hamstra's Obituary
Andrew “Ted” Hamstra, age 79, of Nunica went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Monday, September 19, 2016. He was born January 31, 1937, in Holland, MI, to Andrew and Reka (Baker) Hamstra, and he married the former Dorothy Simmons on September 7, 1957.
Ted served his country in the National Guard and moved to the Tri-Cities area in 1964. He owned and operated Hamstra Builders until his retirement in 2006. Ted was a member of First Reformed Church in Grand Haven, where he had served as deacon and elder. He was a member of the Shoreline Home Builders Association, and enjoyed devoting his spare time to Habitat for Humanity, Love INC, golfing, hunting, and especially his family.
Ted is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Hamstra; three children: Laura Lee of Spring Lake, Todd (Mary) Hamstra of Grand Haven, and Wendy (John) Deiters of Whitehall; seven grandchildren: Jeremy Whitmore, Joshua (Elizabeth Borgeson) Whitmore, Aubrie (Nathan) Johnson, Brandon Hamstra, Bethany Lee, Marci Lee, and Lindsay Lee; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy (Hamstra) Stuck; son-in-law, Mark Lee; four brothers: Gerald, Milton, Calvin, and Glenn Hamstra; and two sisters, Annabelle Prins and Marilyn (Alan) Yakaitis.
The service for Ted will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 23, 2016. at First Reformed Church in Grand Haven with Rev. John Kenny officiating. Friends may meet the family 6-8 PM Thursday, September 22, 2016 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church.
