Andrew Scott "Andy" Hasper's Obituary
Andrew Scott “Andy” Hasper, age 53, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Trinity Health – Muskegon Campus following a very brief illness. Andy was born August 31, 1971 in Grand Rapids, MI to Douglas F. and Terry J. (Rice) Hasper and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Andy was a 1989 graduate of Mona Shores High School, after which he dedicated himself to a life of service to others. He honorably served his country as a proud combat veteran in the United States Army serving 20 years, with 13 of those on active duty. Finally retiring from the Michigan National Guard in 2015 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. While stationed in Vicenza, Italy, Andy deployed to Iraq and served in combat in the 82nd Airborne Division’s 3rd Battalion/325th Parachute Infantry Regiment (Airborne Battalion Combat Team) during the Gulf War’s Operation Provide Comfort. Andy also proudly and dutifully served the citizens of Muskegon County as a Deputy for the past 19 years with the Muskegon County Sherriff’s Department working in corrections, and also as a member of Muskegon County Sheriff's Dive Team. Survivors include his loving daughter, Amelia Clare Hasper; his friend and co-parent, Holly M. Hasper; his mother, Terry J. Hasper, his brothers, John E. Hasper, Joseph M. Hasper; sister-in-law, Michele L. Hasper; brother Christopher L. Sherrill; nieces and nephews, Alexis E. Hasper, John M. D. (Abbey) Hasper, Kaitlyn M. Hasper, Lauren E. Hasper, Joseph D. Hasper; great-niece, Harper Hasper; great-nephew, Oliver Hasper; and girlfriend, Callee Eyestone; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas F. Hasper and his younger brother, Daniel Joseph Hasper. Andy's very sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts and souls of everyone in his life. He was always willing to donate his time, effort and friendship to nearly everyone he met. Besides his close friends and family, he was especially fond of his brothers and sisters he served with in the Army, his coworkers and colleagues at Muskegon County and within the first responder’s community throughout all of Muskegon County, along with his amazing friends from Mando Mercs of Michigan’s Tra’cor Clan. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Wednesday, October 23, 2024 and 4-8 PM Thursday, October 24, 2024 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Mona Shores High School Auditorium, 1121 Seminole Road, Norton Shores, MI 49441, with Public Safety Chaplain Kevin Pycraft officiating. Internment will follow at Norton Cemetery with military honors offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the honor detail from the Michigan Army National Guard. A luncheon will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday following services at FOP Lodge 99, 3051 Blue Lake Rd, Twin Lake, MI 49457. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Andrew S.
